Diary: France counts €80m G20 cost – Business News – The Independent

Cannes, FRANCE

Talk about a fiscal stimulus: the French newspapers say last week’s G20 summit in Cannes cost the country €80m (£68.6m), more than any summit ever held before in France. Much of the cost was generated by super-tight security arrangements, though the Hermes bags handed out to leaders’ wives will presumably have cost a bit. To look on the bright side, some of the cost was defrayed by sponsorship from Societe Generale that should put the bank back in the Government’s good books.
